Jamal Story
Jamal Story is from Carson, California and began dancing around the age of 13. He trained in a variety of schools including A Dancer's Studio under the direction of Stefan Wenta (1990-1992), Cal State University of Dominguez Hills (1992-1995), Lula Washington Dance Theater (1992-1993) and Southern Methodist University (1995-1999). Training at these programs rewarded Mr. Story with a very lucrative career in the dance world. He has danced with Dallas Black Dance Theatre (1995-1996), Ft. Worth Dallas Ballet (1998), Donald Byrd/The Group (1999-2000), Complexions Contemporary Ballet (2000-2004), Daniel Gwirtzman Dance, Donlavy Dance, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Luminario Ballet (2016 and 2018). He also performed on Broadway and traveled the world with musical artists! This incredible list includes Madonna Drowned World Tour (2001), Cher Farewell Tour (2002-05), The Color Purple original Broadway production (2005-2007), Cher Caesar's Palace (2008-2011), Motown the Musical on Broadway (2013), Cher Dressed to Kill Tour (2014), Cher Here We Go Again Tour (2017-current).
Jamal became an aerialist for commercial work and other jobs that would appear. In addition to teaching and choreographing, he is the chair of the National Committee for SAG-AFTRA, serves on the union's NY local board and is the author of two novels. The second novel, Toss in the Ether, is about a black dance company whose lead dancer pushes her husband down the stairs.
As a dancer/artist advocate, Mr. Story continues to engage in activities to help the community during COVID19 pandemic and moonlights as an insurance agent since his current tour has been suspended.
