Rejane Duarte
is from Porto Alegre, Brazil and started dancing when she was 6 years old. She trained at Instituto Municipal de Belas Artes from 1980 to 1988. After leaving IMBA she went on to train at Ballet Vera Bublitz, where she had the chance to perform ballets such as Paquita, Swan Lake, Don Quijote, La Fille Mal Gardee, La Bayadere, Carmina Burana and more. In 1999 she had the opportunity to move to New York City to join Dance Theatre of Harlem. Rejane trained at DTH school for 1 year before she joined the professional company in 2000.
The repertoire she has performed include several Balanchine ballets such as Apollo, Agon, Concerto Barroco, Four Temperaments, Stars & Stripes, Who Cares and more. Rejane also performed Firebird (John Taras), South African Suite (Arthur Mitchell, Laveen Naidu, A. Van Heerden), The Joplin Dances, Return (Robert Garland), Equus (Domy Reiter-Soffer), Concerto in F, Ginastera (Billy Wilson), Sasanka (Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe), Passion of the Blood (Augustus Van Heerden), Giselle (staged by Frederic Franklin), Dougla and Banda ( Geoffrey Holder). She has also done several guest appearances performing Carmen, The Nutcracker, Firebird and Who Cares. Ms Duarte was part of DTH faculty from 2005 to 2012. Most recently, Rejane has represented DTH as a jury member during the 2018 and 2019 edition of the international dance competition in Brazil, FIDPOA.
After retiring from a successful dance career, Rejane transitioned to academics and Medicine. Ms. Duarte holds a Bachelors Degree In Performing Arts-Dance, BSN in Nursing from NYU and a Masters in Nursing. Rejane is a Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner and she is specialized in Cosmetic Dermatology with 14 years of experience in the field.
